« In 2010, UNIDO started the implementation of the resource efficiency and cleaner production (RECP) Program in Tunisia funded by Switzerland. Sofies was then selected through a competitive bidding as the international reference on the RECP program to provide technical expertise and assistance to the Tunisian National Cleaner Production Centre (CITET) and to Tunisian beneficiaries from government, private sector organizations, industrial parks and businesses from manufacturing sectors and hotels.
During 2010, Tunisia went through difficult times related to the Arab spring uprising and the revolution that led to the change of the government. UNIDO and Sofies were able to demonstrate a high level of flexibility to adjust the RECP program taking into account the new developments in the country.
During 2010-2015, UNIDO and Sofies have achieved very good results in Tunisia and contributed to build local capacity able to provide RECP related services to the industry and the hotel sector, including: cleaner production, industrial ecology, sustainable hotels, life cycle assessment, water footprinting and energy efficiency.
Besides Tunisia, UNIDO worked with Sofies in implementing several projects on industrial waste minimization and low carbon production in the coffee and rice sectors (Vietnam, Peru, Colombia and Cambodia) and on eco-industrial parks (Senegal with Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) projects, and in Vietnam).
I would like to praise the professionalism, the dynamism and the commitment of all Sofies experts who have worked on UNIDO projects and strived to deliver world class quality services to beneficiary countries.
All the best to Sofies and looking forward to working together in the future to promote inclusive and sustainable industrial development.”
