Context and objectives

This last year (2017), Nespresso released his first Creating Shared Value report, created in accordance with GRI’s Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. The document presents Nespresso’s sustainable initiatives, focusing on four domains: company, coffee, aluminum and climate. Sofies assisted Nespresso in the GRI reporting process by conducting the following activities:

  • Supporting Nespresso in identifying the organization’s material sustainability issues. This was done through a Materiality Assessment that consist in identifying the issues that are significant for Nespresso business and that also matter to their stakeholders (suppliers, partners, costumers, communities, NGOs, etc.)
  • Examining and consolidating the data collection, taking into account the data scope and reporting boundaries
  • Conducting interviews with relevant resources of Nespresso Head Office and reviewing documentary evidence produced by Nespresso
  • Checking the alignment of the reported data and information to the requirements of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G4 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines

The GRI certification department reviewed the process and the data and validated its alignment with the GRI reporting requirements. This report itself was reviewed by the independent assurance group “Bureau Veritas”.
