Regional E-waste Monitor: focus on Asia

  • 26 January 2017

Sofies consultant and head of Sofies India, Deepali Sinha Khetriwal, has co-authored a UN report on e-waste in Asia.

The Regional E-waste Monitor shows that in 2014 East and South-East Asia generated 16 million metric tons of e-waste. That’s about 3.7 kilograms per person on average, ranging from a high of 21.7 kg per capita in Hong Kong to 1.10 kg per capita in Cambodia. E-waste volumes in the region have risen by 63% over the 5 year period from 2010 – 2015.

The report uniquely presents a summary of the e-waste situation in the region, and it is arranged so as to allow direct comparisons where possible that can help further the development of E-waste management systems based on other countries experiences.
