From Waste to Energy: New Perspectives for the Coffee Sector
17 September 2015
This video is a small documentary on a technology transfer workshop held in Switzerland and part of a global program on Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP), a joint initiative by UNIDO/UNEP and financed by SECO.
The pyrolysis technology was introduced to Vietnamese and Peruvian engineers. The pyrolysis plant valorizes coffee waste to provide two main products: heat, which can be used for drying purposes and biochar, which can be applied as soil enhancer.
There is also a huge potential for it to be transferred to other agro-industrial sectors such as rice, cacao, cashew nut or pepper. This will bring progress towards a more sustainable development of the afro-industry.
